Quid non? left MYC in better shape than it arrived.
"I’m pleased to report that Quid non? arrived safely in the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall after a 20 day 3448nm non stop passage from MYC. Overall it was a lovely crossing, made more enjoyable and relaxing in the knowledge that Quid non? left MYC in better shape than it arrived, way back in July 2019.
Please pass my thanks to everyone that contributed to the safe passage, in particular: Michael for a smooth running Volvo engine and for having spotted at the last minute the troublesome sea water leak caused by the 30mm anti siphon hose connecting to the 25mm sized heat exchanger; Zach for trouble shooting the commissioning issues and identifying and then fixing the navigation light problem on the day that the focsle compartment was as hot as hell; Will for attending to the steering quadrant and advice on quadrant spares; Noah for helping me rig sails in that blistering heat wave day; the rigging and bottom prep crew and Nick, Mark and the dock crew.
MYC provide an excellent service and I have mentioned this in dispatches to other Boréal owners who might be cruising New England. "
-Nigel Philpott, Owner/Skipper of Boréal 44 Quid non?
All systems working, completely rigged and tuned, beautifully polished and clean.
“I have owned Constance for 27 years and she has seen many boat yards! Some good and some not so good! That said she has never been delivered in the beautiful condition she is this year. All systems working, completely rigged and tuned, beautifully polished and clean. Thank you and your crew for your professional help. We had a smooth fast trip back to Linekin Bay. 5:45 from your dock to my mooring, favorable wind and tide with a little help from the engine. No mysterious noises.”
-Charlie Fletcher, Owner/Skipper of Sabre 36 Sailboat Constance
It’s a great place.
“Wendy and I were reflecting about MYC over coffee this morning. This is my eighth season and every one has been terrific. Your entire staff, including but not limited to Bob, Jeff, Jake, Nathan, Mike, Fleming, Leah, Angela, Cam, Steve, etc. are so pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. It’s a great place.”
-Stephen Gaal, Owner/Skipper of Cape Dory 27 Resolved
More quality for the money than any yard I've worked with.
“I am extremely grateful for your patience and commitment (the former doesn't usually beget the latter) to the Wise Child project last summer. That goes for everyone who worked on the boat.
Your collective guidance and focus meant that what needed to happen, did, and it was done well. I learned from your decisions the subtle art of steering a neophyte like me away from ridiculous and costly demands. And in the end, sailed away with confidence, less impoverished than I could have been and all for $$$ well spent.”
-Capt. Frank Gibney, Owner/Skipper of S&S 36 Wise Child
Many thanks to Will, Nathan and all the crew at Maine Yacht Center for truly caring and putting pride in what you do!
“There are a number of great boat yards in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine but wanted to share the exceptional experience I had at Maine Yacht Center in Portland this past winter. Like many boat owners my Downeaster is my pride and joy and ensuring a partnership with a reputable yard has been paramount.
Right from the fall haul I knew the boat was going to be in good hands. They were very accommodating in providing time to allow the spray rails to be blocked appropriately during the haul and making sure the slings were well protected. After the haul the boat got washed, moved inside and blocked making sure everything went well. Knowing I was a little particular about keeping the boat clean over the winter they took the initiative to propose covering it in a dust cover shortly thereafter.
During the winter I worked with the yard on a number of projects. These included a lot of gelcoat repairs, fabrication of a rocket launcher (Cumberland Ironworks - thank you), boot strip repair and bottom paint touch up. During any of the work the yard always took precautions to protect the surrounding areas and the quality is indicative of a best in class yard. Jeff always kept me informed of the status. I tend to have a fairly good eye for gelcoat matches, but they pushed the envelope providing undetectable repairs.
Many thanks to Will, Nathan and all the crew at Maine Yacht Center for truly caring and putting pride in what you do!”

I’ve had boats in various yards on both sides of the Atlantic over the years, and I’ve rarely encountered one as competent, professional, and user-friendly as yours.
“Just a quick note here to thank you and Jeff and all the rest of the crew at MYC for the excellent care you’ve lavished upon Lunacy over the past couple of years. I’ve had boats in various yards on both sides of the Atlantic over the years, and I’ve rarely encountered one as competent, professional, and user-friendly as yours. From designing and creating a new bowsprit to the boat to ad hoc rudder repairs to coping with her creative wiring, the MYC crew have proven to be invaluable partners in upgrading and maintaining the old girl. The great stability of your team and their depth of knowledge make MYC a great resource for anyone looking to refit and/or maintain a boat in southern Maine. If you do post this letter on your website, I would urge those interested in learning more about the work MYC has performed on Lunacy to check out The Lunacy Report on my blog WaveTrain.”
-Charles J. Doane, Executive Editor at SAIL Magazine, Owner/Skipper of Boréal 47 Lunacy
My expectation was completely fulfilled by the MYC team.
"In undertaking the Vendee Globe (the solo, non-stop, round-the-world race in Open 60s), a skipper must have total confidence in his or her boat. Having worked with Brian Harris on previous voyages aboard our trimaran Great American II, I knew that for our Vendee Globe 2008-9 aboard Great American III, he and his team at Maine Yacht Center would be the perfect place for a major refit of my Open 60. My expectation was completely fulfilled by the MYC team. They were skilled and creative in all the disciplines of an offshore boat, found problems to be solved that I hadn't identified, were collaborative with my ideas, on time in our schedule, and friendly. Our 9th place of 11 finishers of 30 starters proved the point of world-class boat preparation."
-Rich Wilson, Owner/Skipper of Open 60 Great American III
The facility is first class and the care, professionalism & attention of the crew was excellent.
“On behalf of my family and myself, I want to thank you and your team for a great experience at Maine Yacht Center in the launching, hauling (for hurricane “Irene”) and re-launching of my sailboat Sanderling. The facility is first class and the care, professionalism & attention of the crew was excellent. Sanderling being over forty years old and not in the water for almost 8 years, I had my trepidations; however, with the great service of Maine Yacht Center all went well and Sanderling is now sailing Casco Bay.”
-Tony Theriault, Owner/Skipper of Sanderling
I know that Fianna and I are safe in relying upon Maine Yacht Center's thoughtful engineering and high quality craftsmanship.
"Fianna, my 1985 Wauqiuez Pretorian, has been completely restored by the world class craftsmen at Maine Yacht Center. Under their care she has received a stem to stern refit. MYC's convenient location, new dock facilities, caring and responsible dock staff and their network of partners, tradesmen, and marine experts makes MYC the center of my yachting experience. As a single-hander, I know that Fianna and I are safe in relying upon Maine Yacht Center's thoughtful engineering and high quality craftsmanship."
-Richard Buchanan, Owner/Skipper of Wauqiuez Pretorian Fianna
Doing business with Maine Yacht Center is reminiscent of times past when integrity, fairness and keeping one’s word characterized all transactions.
"Doing business with Maine Yacht Center is reminiscent of times past when integrity, fairness and keeping one’s word characterized all transactions. Add to that world class skills in a broad array of marine disciplines, real value for money spent and a staff that cares about the customer’s satisfaction and safety at sea. That’s why I continue to return to MYC for my storage and maintenance needs."
-Bruce Blessington, Owner/Skipper of Alden Yachts 43 Dress Blue
The team at the Maine Yacht Center is absolutely first rate.
"The team at the Maine Yacht Center is absolutely first rate. They have assisted with the preparation of my Class 40 for two major ocean races which required a variety of complex tasks from rigging to painting. The work was always completed in a thoroughly professional manner and at a price that was very competitive compared to my options in southern New England."
-Nick Halmos, Owner/Skipper of Class 40 Cutlass
Thank you and all at MYC for the hard work.
“Hope all is well in Maine and you all are managing to stay warm. I write to you from Antigua having just finished our first trip. Systems-wise everything on Hound performed beautifully, so I thank you and all at MYC for the hard work put into her.”
-Nick Pucello, Skipper of Hound
Thank you for providing us with such fine facilities.
(After winning the Class 40 Quebec to France trans-Atlantic race.)
"This victory (which has yet to sink in) is for all the people who have supported us along the way with this project, which very much includes you all at MYC - thank you for providing us with such fine facilities for preparing Campagne de France!"
-Miranda & Halvard, Owners/Skippers of Class 40 Campagne de France
I say great things about your yard whenever I have a chance.
"I am reading Rich Wilson's book on the Vendee Globe and just came to the part where he describes the refit in your yard.... I felt a deep connection to your team when I read this. While my project was tiny compared to the work you did on Great American III, it was handled with the same care and professionalism. I say great things about your yard whenever I have a chance."
-Gregg Clark, Vicem 51
You have a top notch team.
“We have really enjoyed our trips north and hope we have a chance to use your terrific facilities and services again in the future. You have a top notch team and you all have been most supportive over these past seasons."
-Ralph and Nick, Owners/Skippers of 43' Power Catamaran Phat Cat
I want you to know how well you and your team did in refitting our Hinckley 48.
“I want you to know how well you and your team did in refitting our Hinckley 48. She is the showpiece of Marblehead Harbor with everyone talking about her. The rebuilt centerboard is quiet and there is no strain on the engine as it raises and lowers. The electrical system and battery charging is great as are the instruments (new GPS and all). For the 1st time we have an Autopilot we can depend on. Also all the other stuff, toilets, lighting, interior wood, all well done. The varnished hatches and cockpit coamings are beautiful and I'm glad you were able to save our old cabin hatches as they came out so well. Even with her added vents and handles she still keeps her traditional look. Most important of all, the engine/transmission ran fine, easy starting, no vibration, and the instrument panel indicated a properly running machine. So well done to the Maine Yacht Center.”
-Bill, Hinckley 48
Thank you and your crew for all your efforts.
"Jeff, Paper Doll is safe on its mooring after leaving the marina this morning. I would like to thank you and your crew for all your efforts in keeping Paper Doll safe all winter and getting her ready for the season. Please pass my thanks on to both Sams, Jake, Graham, Bob, Mike, and Brett and all the guys that I may have forgotten to list that made for a great and uneventful launch."
-Terry Pendleton, Owner/Skipper of Ericson 34 Paper Doll
Thanks so much for all your advice and hard work.
“Jason, it was great to get out and sail this weekend - beautiful day Sunday. She really handles well - the furler setup is great. We are looking forward to the new mainsail! The torqeedo outboard is perfect for that boat - really appreciate your recommendation on that. Thanks so much for all your advice and hard work.”
-Joel Wirth, Owner/Skipper of Cape Dory Typhoon 19 Martlet
Everything worked well and your solution to the dinghy davit issue was terrific.
“Hi Jason; back in Portland after 12 days on Sea Goose. Everything worked well and your solution to the dinghy davit issue was terrific. Lots of rain and too much engine time but some great sailing as well.”
-John Phillips, Owner/Skipper of Robinhood Sail 38 Sea Goose
